Press News about Diane OConnor

The  Art of Living Project
Diane was invited to participate in The Art of Living Project, created by Barb Skivington and Melanie Royals in 2006. It was conceived as an opportunity to nurture creative lifestyles and livelihoods by designing decorative painting projects that would help to elevate decorative art in general, as well as the artists that participate in these projects.

The first Art of Living project took place in Brandywine, PA and included 20 participant artist/apprentices who learned and worked over two 5-day sessions to transform 10 interior spaces in a French Country-style home.

The resulting book Art of Living - Decorative Finishes Inspired by the South of France, chronicles the project from inspiration to execution. It features step-by-step instruction for each of the 12 unique finishes that were completed at the Brandywine house along with the beautifully photographed finished spaces, biographies of the participants, product and tool glossaries, basic stenciling instruction and a Resource Guide.

Local artist invited to participate on International Decorative Painting Project.

Diane Oconnor, of Springfield, was chosen as a master decorative painting apprentice with the first project of the national Decorative Painting Apprenticeship Program, LLC (DPAP). She joins thirty-eight students and nine instructors from Canada, Scotland, California, Minnesota, Missouri, and many from the east coast states, to transform the plain white interior of the contemporary church over six months into a richly decorated house of worship with faux wood graining, marbling, gold leafing, stenciling, murals, glazing and Venetian plaster.

With minimal cost to St Cornelious Catholic Church in Chadds Ford, a suburb of Philadelphia, the master decorative painters and apprentices stippled, dabbed and trowelled  twenty-thousand square feet of white walls with faux finishes and decorative painting.

As a result, the walls of St Cornelious Church are alive with illusions. A textured glaze warms the sanctuary and wood grained paneling appears below the chair rail in the courtyard area. Rich Venetion plaster glows around the entrance to the sanctuary. A landscape mural of wheat fields and the “Heavenly City” decorates the narthex and clouds and sky appear to float in the vaulted ceiling above.

Monsignor Greg Parlante of St. Cornelious  is thrilled with the result and dubbed it “ the divine makeover ”.

For those who understand that
    “ it’s not finished ‘til it's finished.”
